Welcome to The Living Dread; future home of my horror novels and short stories (some free, some not so free), retro and new reviews of horror movies, books and games, and some fun discussion about all things horror.
So who am I? Well for now I’m a stranger to most of you, but I hope to change that with time, and I’d be tickled pink if a chunk of you found some enjoyment in my books.
I guess I’ll start by telling you why I started writing in the first place. Ever since I was too young to be consuming horror, I’ve been exposed to its glory in both writing and film. I was raised on it, have become acclimated to it, and now I require it to breathe. Of course I enjoyed the big ones like Stephen King, Koontz and the rest, but it wasn’t until I found Clive Barker and H.P. Lovecraft that the scales tipped and I realized just how dark and limitless the genre can be (and Clive Barker’s range goes far beyond Cenobites). Throw in a little William S. Burroughs for that surreal, rule-shattering, visceral edge, a little sci-fi (that’s sci-fi, people, not syfy) and a love for filmmakers like John Carpenter, David Cronenberg, Dario Argento and George Romero (lets just forget about those films made after the underrated Bruiser), and that would be a good—though utterly incomplete—summary of my influences.
The result was a few years of trial and error, a few short stories followed by a few novels, followed by a desire to share my learning experiences and passion for horror with like-minded folks like you! And in the end it doesn’t really matter who I am, because without you I’m just talking to myself, so you’re going to be the ones to help give birth to this site.
